MALAYSIA STILLS IN THE MOOD


SHAH ALAM, (Bernama) - Malaysia lived up to the AFF Suzuki Cup momentum by scoring a comfortable 2-0 win over Hong Kong in an international friendly at the Shah Alam Stadium.
Safiq Rahim and Mohd Amirulhadi Zainal were the toast of the Malaysian side as their goals in the 43rd and final minute enable the national side to avenge a 1-3 defeat seven years ago and restore lost pride.

Backed by about 5,000 fans, the Malaysian Tigers, fresh from their AFF Suzuki Cup win, were the early aggressors but despite dominating the proceedings, had to wait for the 43rd minute before taking the lead.

Captain Safiq Rahim perform another of Norshahrul Idlan Talha feat against Indonesia in the first leg final of the AFF Suzuki Cup at Bukit Jalil National Stadium exactly at the same spot. Safiq robbed defender Deng Jing Huai at the byline dummied a defender before unleashing a left foot at the near post.


Earlier in the 13th minute Pelita Jaya bound player, Safee Sali's venomous volley from 25 metres caught Hong Kong goalkeeper Yapp Hung Fai off guard but the ball came off his shoulders before bouncing off the crossbar into play.

In the second half, coach K. Rajagobal made a number of tactical changes by injecting new blood with the introduction of striker Norshahrul Idlan Talaha,  goalkeeper Mohd Farizal Marlias and Mohd Amirulhadi Zainal.
Malaysia had a golden opportunity to increase the lead through a splendid move by S. Kunalan but his tremendous effort was foiled by the bar in the 75th minute.
It was then that Mohd Amirulhadi came into the picture in the final minute to made it 2-0. Right back Sabree Abu measured long range pass from the Malaysian half found Amirul. The lanky striker beat the goalkeeper and lashed in a shot into the net.

Meanwhile at Po Khong Village Stadium, Indonesia thrashed the Hong Kong Olympic side 4-1 in a friendly match. Alfred Reidl side got their goals through Yongki Aribowo, Titus Bonai and Arif Alfiansyah.
